With his much-anticipated thriller ?Argo? having hit theaters Oct. 12, Affleck has agreed to write and direct his second Lehane story after 2007?s ?Gone Baby Gone.? With another Boston crime narrative, Affleck and his film crew will be back in Beantown in the near future.

Lehane?s new novel, ?Live By Night,? takes place in both Prohibition-era Boston and Tampa?s Ybor City. The story centers on the rising of Boston gangster Joe Coughlin. During the time of underground distilleries and speakeasies in the Roaring '20s, Coughlin ? the son of a prominent Boston police captain ? finds the life of guns, wealth, women and liquor irresistible.

Leonardo DiCaprio, who starred in Lehane?s ?Shutter Island,? was originally set to produce after Warner Bros. acquired the rights to the movie. But now DiCaprio?s production company, Appian Way, will co-produce with Pearl Street, Affleck?s shared company with Matt Damon.

Warner Bros. also bought the rights to ?The Given Day,? another Lehane novel that shares the same characters as ?Live By Night,? but there are no definitive plans for the movie. Lehane plans to write a third book and tie all three into a trilogy, giving Warner Bros. the potential for a movie trilogy.

Memories Captured October Linky! : These Little Waves

?Why are we doing this?? She asks.

Her tone is sweet, soft, young. I pause to take it in, to take her in, and to carefully word my answer.

Fall?s crisp cools my fingers, a reminder of the season?s next turn.

Leaves melt off trees, framing my daughter?s silhouette as they drizzle onto browned grass?in a patchwork of October?s finest gems. Reds. Oranges. Yellows.

I press the marker into her hand. ?Because it?s important,? is how I start.

She wraps her slender fingers around the marker, grips it tight, leans in.

Her long locks slip over her shoulders and graze the board. They shine in the afternoon?s golden light.

She labors over her letters. Each etch is well thought out, each feel is her own.

Almost a decade ago, I spent fall afternoons inside, sitting cross-legged on the floor. The carpet beneath me rough, the baby in my lap soft.

I was a new mother in an Early Childhood Family Education class, and my eyes were edged in all that braided those days together ? tired and new and so, so very much to learn.

I sat shoulder to shoulder with other mothers. Our babies toddled and crawled and wove between us.

Their unsure steps and indignant cries, diapered bottoms pushed out and colorful toys grasped between pudgy fingers, threaded our New together.

The teacher sat in our circle, too. Her eyes were the deepest shade of fall?s brown, and she responded to our worries about sleep and milk and cries with warmth.

One night,?Kayli pressed her knees into that carpet and one hand onto my knee, and shook a rattle my way. It was BIG in her hand and LOUD in my ears.

And I matched her BIG and her LOUD with my mothering words meant to fill every single space between us.?That?s a rattle. So loud! It?s yellow.

Our teacher leaned in, touched Kayli?s back, lowered the rattle, quieted our noise.

And holding onto jeaned knees with manicured fingers, she said,??Everyone deserves someone who sees their good.? And one HeartBreath later, ?It?s important.?

It so is, isn?t it?

She passed those words to us, one mother to another. And we sat in her circle, enclosing her gift between us.

Today, through these words and these photos and this linkup, I?m honored to share the Good shoulder to shoulder with you, encircled in our own space with our own children weaving between us, our words filling the spaces in between.

Thank you for seeing our Good, I can?t wait to See yours.

How To Earn Your Keep In Internet Marketing | Valentino Crawford

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

You need to study internet marketing and gain skills in it, in order to profit from it. It will be necessary to gain as much knowledge as you can if you are to reach your web marketing profit goals. This article will provide you with excellent information and advice to get you started.

Work only with generous companies with affiliate programs that are also fair. Any affiliate company that gives less than a 20% commission isn?t worth your time. Respectable affiliate companies will offer higher commissions in an effort to earn you return business.

Think of innovative new ways to use the affiliate products you sell. Items ordinarily reserved for a particular use can be re-purposed and marketed in a new way. Examples could include a mat designed for shoes that alternates as a tray for water, pet food or draining dishes.

TIP! Venturing into specialty niches can bring you more success with affiliate marketing. If you have a unique product your money will come faster.

Knowing your audience will make you successful through online marketing. If you intend on keeping readers, you must provide them with the information they need. What drives them to your site? What captures the visitor?s attention?

A great way to maximize your marketing potential is to utilize an affiliate network. These networks can be useful to connect advertisers and webmasters. The professionalism of the network webmaster you choose will help your internet marketing plan succeed. One of those goals, is to have a good reputation.

Use online communities to help you develop new marketing strategies. There are many forums and groups where you can share code, ideas, new affiliate programs, graphics, and get help with questions you might have.

TIP! Keeping tabs on where your links perform well is important in managing your affiliate marketing. Changing the position of the link can let you see where it helps your website the most.

There are risks involved with affiliate plans that pay based on sales, so make sure you understand what you are signing on for. If it does work out, it can lead to a pretty good payday. Before signing with any affiliate companies do your research so you know if they are a good match with your site.

Use several different venues for marketing. The internet is a place where many potential customers go to find a product they desire. Other customers prefer the feeling of a printed brochure in their hands. Others might still need a percentage off coupon. Broadening your advertising approach can get the word out to a greater number of potential customers.

TIP! Know your target audience and what your goals are before selecting affiliates. This will help you get more visitors and help these people find the products they need.

There are lots of different affiliate programs to choose from. Affiliate programs all have different products and ways of doing things.

Daily communication is the key for a binding and beneficial relationship among affiliate partners. Frequent communication can protect your revenues. Good affiliates are worth their weight in gold, and so you must ensure you hang onto them.

Increase your Google Plus follower count to keep ahead of your competitors. Advertise your account on other social media sites, and have a way for people to easily follow you with a link on your site. Give them good information so they want to visit your site.

TIP! Affiliate websites are not all the same. You will find that some are frustrating or just difficult to navigate.

If you take the time to plan your next move and keep these tips in mind, you are going to see the positive outcome that you were hoping for when you decided to get involved. So make a action plan ? including these tips ? and get to work

P.S.-If you love to promote online affiliate programs and would love to make an extra $1000/day blogging about your favorite affiliate product, find out how my 2 friends are helping thousands of people make money about their passions! Health Benefits of Owning a Pet ? 16939th Edition | Health Blog

It?s often stated that dogs are a man?s best friend. However, that also rings true for many pet animals, including cats, fish, birds, and exotic animals. Just as all of these pets offer companionship to their owners, beloved animals also provide a significant amount of health benefits to their owners.

The most common pets in the United States are cats, dogs, and fish. Birds, and small animals such as hamsters and mice, are a distance third and fourth. Some pets that were formerly considered exotic, especially reptiles, are growing in popularity. Although dogs are found in more households than any other pets, more fish are domesticated than any other animal. Although most households only have a single cat or dog, most fish ?guardians? own more than a dozen.

Some exotic pets such as reptiles and birds don?t seem all that unusual. However, there are a number of pets that you wouldn?t expect to see as family friendly household pets. Animals must be bred and trained, sometimes for many generations, before becoming suited to human interaction and earning the distinction of ?pet.?

Uncommon pets that have grown in popularity include chickens, tame silver foxes, hedgehogs, monkeys, raccoons, piranhas, and even cheetahs. The list could continue, although some of the most unusual ?pets? are actually domesticated illegally.

Regardless of what animal is selected by its owner, both receive benefits of the symbiotic relationship. Medium-sized pets, especially dogs, are great workout partners for a walk or run around the part. Fostering at least one pet has consistently been shown to provide such physical benefits as lowered blood pressure.

Some of the health benefits are directly related to physical fitness, but some of the most dramatic health benefits for the owner are psychological.

Therapeutic institutions provide animals for some of their patients to raise as part of the recovery process. Patients are given responsibility to care for another living thing. Studies have shown that pets help patients recovered from troubled pasts, and live healthier, longer lives. Another specific use of pets being beneficial to their owner is their use as guide dogs for the visually impaired.

Even though there are many valuable health benefits given to people who foster animals, owning a pet provides many difficult challenges. Many animals leave behind dander that may severely worsen allergies. The behavior and upkeep of pet animals may also provide a large amount of stress to their owners. In some cases, animals injure their owners or other people nearby sometimes even fatally. After all, animals aren?t meant to be domesticated; their natural home will always be in the wild.

Because pets are living things, with their own personality and interests, there are a wide variety of laws set to protect both the pet and the owner. A large number of states have law in place that limits the quantity of pets in a home, and regulates which types of animals are allowed. Many apartment and condominium complexes don?t allow their residents to raise pets, which is difficult for pet owners, but ultimately helps to ensure that pets are raised in a more suitable environment.

Although pets aren?t for everybody, they have a considerable list of benefits, physically and emotionally. Adopting pets is a great opportunity to provide a quality place to live for an animal in need of love and attention.

Visit out vast pet community where you can connect with other pet owners and find pet shops to browse.

?Nanoflowers? to store energy in tiny pink bouquets

11 hrs.

Who says innovation can't be pretty??These tiny?pink nanostructures could revolutionize batteries, by storing energy with unprecedented?surface area.

The "nanoflowers"?are made out of germanium sulfide ? a semiconductor material. The shape means more surface area in a smaller space, which makes it ideal for energy storage applications such as the batteries in your smartphone.

The breakthrough comes from Linyou Cao and colleagues at North Carolina State University.

To create the flower structures, the team first heats up a powdered form of the?semiconductor material in a furnace until it begins to vaporize and?then blows it to a cooler region of the furnace where it settles out into layered sheets.

The sheets are only 20- to 30-nanometers thick and up to 100-micrometers long. As additional layers are added, the sheets branch out from one another, forming a floral pattern similar to a marigold or carnation, the university explains in a news release.

The flower-like structure could increase the capacity of lithium-ion batteries because the thinner structure and larger surface area can hold more lithium ions, the team notes. By the same token, the structure could also be used to increase the capacity of superconductors.

The technique to create the nanoflowers is detailed in the journal ACS Nano.?

This episode of The Afterword is brought to you by Audible. Get a free audiobook and 30-day trial today by signing up at www.audiblepodcast.com/afterword.

Before the Polaroid Co. introduced the Model 95 camera in November 1948, photography was a slow process. Photographers who didn?t have access to a dark room had to send their exposed films away for processing and wouldn?t see their photographs for at least a week. In Instant: The Story of Polaroid, New York magazine?s Christopher Bonanos discusses Polaroid?s visionary founder, Edwin Land; the company?s amazing string of inventions; and its gradual decline. The interview lasts around 30 minutes.

The Afterword, which appears in the Slate daily podcast feed every other Thursday, features interviews with the authors of new nonfiction books. The next guest will be Jeffrey Toobin, author of The Oath: The Obama White House and the Supreme Court. That podcast will be available on Oct. 25.

The show?s email address is slateafterword@gmail.com.

The podcast is produced by June Thomas. The executive producer of Slate?s podcasts is Andy Bowers.

United raises fares by up to $10 per round trip

16 hrs.

United Airlines is raising prices on most flights within the U.S. by up to $10 per round trip.

The airline confirmed the increase on Wednesday. J.P. Morgan analyst Jamie Baker said that as of Wednesday morning, no other major airlines had matched United's move.

United's increase ranged from $4 to $10 per round trip, depending on distance. Baker said it was the 12th attempt this year by airlines to raise fares, but only four have succeeded.

Airlines usually roll back increases if key competitors don't match them, because many consumers will switch airlines to save even a few dollars. Baker said the fate of United's increase would depend largely on whether Southwest matches it.

FareCompare.com CEO Rick Seaney said United's fare increase doesn't affect sale prices for off-peak winter travel that were introduced Tuesday by Southwest Airlines and matched by United and others. Those sales end Thursday night.

United tried to raise prices in mid-September but gave up after other carriers declined to go along. Airlines are trying to cover high fuel costs but have been more cautious on increasing prices this year than a year ago, as the economy has remained sluggish and doubts have arisen about demand for air travel.

Romney chips at Obama lead, but electoral math still favors president

Last week's debate between President Barack Obama and challenger Mitt Romney has inflicted severe turmoil on Obama's standing in the polls, breathing new life and energy into Romney's bid. If the United States elected its presidents by popular vote, the way sane electoral systems operate, Obama's odds of re-election would have plummeted in tandem. Unfortunately for the Romney campaign, it will take more than one good night to overcome the steep uphill climb it faces in the Electoral College this year. The first debate between Obama and Romney radically altered the dynamic of the 2012 election, but it did not change the math.

It has been clear at least since February that Romney has to win Florida, Ohio and Virginia to have a viable shot at victory. This troika, along with the states safely in the Republican column, would bring Romney to 266 electoral votes. From there, he would need just one more state?say, New Hampshire?to push him over the 270 mark. All three states have moved in his favor over the past two weeks.

Sources: Betfair, Intrade, HuffPost's Pollster, RealClearPolitics.

The overall odds for Obama remain well above 60 percent for one simple reason: Romney needs all three swing states to win, while Obama needs only to deny him one of them. Right now, that rearguard action is occurring in Ohio, where Obama is maintaining his lead in the aftermath of the debate.

As the graph clearly shows, right now the states are correlated: They all move up or down in basic tandem in response to national events. By Election Day, after all the speeches have been given, all the debates played out and all the commercials aired, this will no longer be the case. The states will become individual coin tosses. If they are still in toss-up territory, it will mean Romney will need to flip heads three times in a row, while Obama will need to flip tails only once.
